The Netherlands a shift in energy

The Netherlands a shift in energy.

I recently spend a delightful week in the Netherlands visiting family and friends. When the weather cooperates, autumn is quite stunning, and it was. Stunningly multi-colored forests, fluffy white clouds and clean crisp air.

The path - Holland
The Netherlands - Autumn
Each time I go back home to the Netherlands I find nothing much has changed. Of course some little things change here and there (people move, kids are born, relationships end), but in general coming home feels like, well ... coming home. This time however I noticed a bigger change and not one for the better alas.

Traveling around to meet with friends I noticed a definite change in energy. It felt like people were walking and driving around in a very aggressive and frustrated manner. Even in the more "rural"/ laid-backed areas people were driving like it was down town Los Angeles and bumping into me while shopping without even an "excuse me" or an acknowledgement. I have to say that I was stunned and reflecting on these experiences with some friends at the end of my time in the Netherlands they acknowledged that this shift had been visible for a while.

I don't know why this shift is happening but good it is not. I hope it is a temporary movement and that people will be happily walking the streets while whistling their favorite tune again soon.
