Nelson Mandela , Invictus an inspiration

Nelson MandelaYesterday I saw Invictus, with Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon.

The film tellsthe inspiring, true story of how Nelson Mandela (Freeman), as president of the Republic of South Africa, joined forces with the captain (Damon) of South Africa's rugby team to help unite their country.

Mandela is one of my great inspirations; a true visionary who treats everybody with utmost respect and love. I will never forget seeing him on stage in Amsterdam accompanied by one of his jail-guards from his 30-year imprisonment on Robben Island and hearing him speak about forgiveness, unity and personal power.

Today I would like to share with you the Poem Invictus, by W.E. Henley, that gave Mandela so much inspiration during his life. May it inspire you.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeoning of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

~ William Ernest Henley
