Effort is overrated in realizing success: Work SMART not HARD

Does this sounds familiar to you: "Work hard and you will be successful!?"

Do you remember "those kids" at school who always had good grades without putting much effort in it, and those who have studied day and night and had poor results? Does that seem fair?

Effort is the single most overrated feature in producing success. It actually is a terrible predictor of outcomes, because the inefficient use of effort is a tremendous source of discouragement. This results in leaving people to believe that they can never achieve their so much desired success because "even expanding maximum effort" has not produced it.

So what to do? How can you make sure you realize your goals and reach new levels of success?

The key is to make sure you unlock your way of doing "efficient effort." Here is a way how of coaching yourself to success:

  • Think about an achievement in your life that made you proud. Got it? Perfect.
  • Now ask yourself: "What did I do that made this a success in my life? Which trait or skill did I use."
  • Once you have determined this skill ask yourself: "How can I apply this to my current situation and realize my current goal?"

If you find the ways that have brought you success in the past and are able to copy and build on these skills you will be able to make your efforts efficient and smart ... success will be your part!

Enjoy the ride.
